On average, sales representatives spend barely more than two hours a day in direct contact with customers. Most of their time is spent on research, lead qualification, follow-up, and administrative tasks. Given rising expectations regarding the speed and quality of customer contact, this limited time is increasingly becoming a competitive disadvantage. Conversely, dedicating more time to the customer represents a genuine competitive advantage.
At the Leaders Lab—organized by Leaders of AI, Virtual Identity, and EY —this challenge became the starting point for an ambitious experiment. Can a system comprising multiple AI agents automate and personalize the sales process in such a way that sales teams can significantly increase their sales time? Within a single day—and based on a few days of preparatory work—an interdisciplinary team of AI experts and sales professionals developed a working prototype.
The result is a system that maps the entire lead process. New leads are automatically researched and evaluated. Based on a personality model and relevant data, the system determines whether the initial contact should be made via email, voicebot, or by a human sales professional. This automates standard tasks, achieves speed-to-lead—drastically minimizing the time from a potential customer’s initial contact to the first response from a sales representative—and takes the personalization of the approach to a whole new level.
The feedback in the Leaders Lab was clear. The prototype is seen as a groundbreaking step toward a data-driven, scalable, and significantly more efficient sales process. Automating routine tasks frees up time for value-adding customer interactions and raises the quality of lead qualification to a consistent, company-wide level that is independent of individual employees.
This white paper documents the key findings from the Leaders Lab, describes the architecture and functionality of the multi-agent system, and highlights how both sales leaders and employees can benefit from this development. The future of sales is data-driven, fast-paced, and personalized. It starts now.
